It's called a Y, splits the cable into 2 sets of cables. Then get the adapter to make your audio cords fit the headphone cord. Only costs a few bucks.

I would get a headset. You can play it without disturbing other people in the house, and you can get it as loud as you want for yourself. Also if you plan to talk to other people online then the echo from using surround sound can get very annoying. A headset is probably best... and cheaper.

If I'm not mistaken, the cable in question is detachable on both ends. Bose headphone customer support is top notch in my experience, their Phone # is 1-800-278-1281. Below is a link to their support page that may have exactly what you're looking to replace.

For pure audio sound, try the Sennheiser HD650 or the AKG K701. these run 450 -500 bucks, but are pretty much the best. If that's a little spendy try the Sennhiser HD580 at 200 bucks. Or for really good sound for the money the Goldring DR-100 or Grado SR80 at 100 bucks. I stay away from noise cancelling phones for pure audio listening, because they add a signal to counteract ambient noise. You get about the same noise reduction by using a good sealing around the ear 'phone. Do a litte research online at AudioAdvisor, AcousticSounds or Crutchfield, there are lots of good 'phones from AKG, Sennheiser, Stax, Ultrasone, Grado. I have found that the really great sounding headphones do start around that 100 dollar mark, most at or above that price giving way better sound than units under 100
